DOUG – A1034613
8-9-2015 Manhattan
**GONE 08/09/15** DOUG is a superstar of a boy who was adopted for a WEEK and then returned to the shelter. He is already neutered and ready to go back into a home setting, and judging from these staff comments, whoever saves his life will be VERY glad they did: “A staff member writes, “Basically, Doug is the best cat ever. He caught my eye on a chance, I was walking through the room and there he was, out of the corner of my eye, just sitting right at the front of the kennel waiting for someone to come over and say hello. When I did, he was just so quiet and happy, meowing his pleasure when I came over, and purring when I scratched him. When I brought him out, he cuddled on my lap for a few minutes, and then quietly got up and wandered around exploring. Doug is truly a gem and would be a great cat for anyone to take home. Come meet Doug and fall in love today.” ” Offer to foster/adopt DOUG tonight, and save a life who is well worth saving!

07/27/2015 PET PROFILE MEMO
07/27/15 19:39 Basic Information: Doug is a 3 year old Domestic Short hair who was returned to the shelter a week after adopted because owner felt he is very excitable. The two things his previous owner liked most about him are; he’s very curious and friendly. Social Life & Personality: Doug is litter box trained and lived indoors only. He has a high activity level and can be described as playful, confident, friendly, affectionate, quiet and independent. Behavior Issues: Doug is easily excitable and in the mist of play or when attempting to play he scratches and has drawn blood within the last 10 days. Doug enjoys having his coat brushed and being held. He struggles when he’s picked up but after a few minutes he settles down and isn’t bothered. He also isn’t bothered if he is disturbed while sleeping. For a New Owner to Know: Dough used clumping cat litter, in an uncovered litter box. She likes to play with balls, wand toys and string. He used a rough rope scratching post and wooden furniture to scratch on. When the previous owner was home Doug would tend to follow her around and liked to be in the same room as her. When he played he was very rough. Doug eats wet and dry Science diet cat food. At night he slept in the bathroom. Behavior during Intake: While in his crate Doug was quiet. When I took him out he wanted to wander and explore his surroundings. He allowed me to pet, hold and collar him. He went up to my face and sniffed my nose. He ate and went in and out of his crate easily. He stayed at the front of the crate and tried to play with me through the door; he poked his paw out and gently tapped my hand and rubbed the front of the crate door with his face and side. After lying down for a few minutes he meowed and purred.

08/04/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Reaction to assessor: Doug looks neutral in his cage when approached by the assessor. Reaction to door opening: Doug remains sitting upright on his cage bedding, alert with soft eyes. Reaction to touch: Doug accepts the stroke, but remains focus on his surroundings then began to play box with claws in and attempts to nip at the assessor’s hand. Reaction to Being Picked up: He calmly jumps back into his cage. Placement determination: Experience / no child Doug tolerates attention and petting but may be stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in a calm, quiet home with experienced cat parents and without children.

A volunteer writes: This handsome boy was waiting for me at the front of his cage and was so happy to have some attention! He’s quite an unique looking cat – mostly white with gray tabby markings, and white legs, but only his front leg has gray tabby markings! Lane is affectionate, calm and loving, and will make a wonderful companion.
