***SAFE 06/06/15*** SECOND CHANCE FOR DARLING DIVA—SWEET BUT SCARED SENIOR NEEDS NEW FAMILY ROLE TO “STAR” IN! Once upon a time, Diva had a home of her own. And by “once upon a time,” we’re referring to “every day of the last 14 years, including the morning of 5/23. Yes, Diva belonged to somebody until she was cruelly dumped into the shelter system, and the stress of that betrayal undoubtedly contributed to the (NH rating rating she earned during her behavior eval. The ACC found it highly surprising that this smart, independent cat would take offense at being treated like a criminal, but they are the only ones who feel that way. It is quite obvious that Diva, who has lived with kids and is described as “friendly, mellow, affectionate and playful” is just a betrayed feline family member who will surely return to her sweet self once she feels safe and secure. But tonight, Diva is living her final few hours. If no one steps up for her tonight, the final curtain will fall on this darling Diva who will be dead when tomorrow afternoon rolls around. Please make sure Diva is one of the lucky ones, who can put the ACC behind them and go on to a better life. You must contact a New Hope approved rescue to save this sweet but scared senior. Please act right away.

05/23/2015 PET PROFILE MEMO
05/23/15 15:10 BASIC INFO Diva’s family got her as a gift from a family member 11 years ago. They surrendered her due to allergies. She has hairballs esp. when she’s fed dry food. When offered both, she only eats wet pate food. SOCIALIZATION Diva is shy with new people for a few minutes. She lived with 2 children ages 0-16. She’s relaxed and affectionate with them but swats if they’re too rough. She plays exuberantly with people. She hasn’t bit/scratched anyone. She lived with a medium sized dog for 6 months. She avoided and hid from her, hissing and growling if she got close. She kills mice. BEHAVIOR Diva scratched wood furniture. She’s relaxed in the car. She was housetrained and hadn’t ever had an accident until recently; she urinated on the carpeted floor twice in the past month. Her owner doesn’t know why. She doesn’t mind being picked up/held, put in a carrier, or woken up. She tolerates being brushed but hisses. FOR A NEW FAMILY TO KNOW Diva’s family describes her as friendly, affectionate, playful, mellow, shy, independent, and medium energy. Her owner likes that she snores. Diva likes to run around and play and scratch wood. She follows her owner and likes to play with string, stuffed toys, catnip toys, and wand toys. Diva lived inside and slept on or under the bed at night and on a cat bed during the day. She likes Temptations treats. She uses a hooded litterbox with clumping litter. She had carpeted vertical and curved scratching posts and didn’t use them. INTAKE Diva walked into her kennel and curled up tightly in the back. She looked around with wide eyes and allowed us to pet, scan (negative), collar, and photograph her. She was easy to handle and didn’t resist/retreat/vocalize.

05/27/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Diva’s former owner stated she is shy with new people for a few minutes. She lived with 2 children ages 0-16. She’s relaxed and affectionate with them but swats if they’re too rough. She plays exuberantly with people. She lived with a medium sized dog for 6 months. She avoided and hid from her, hissing and growling if she got close. She scratched wood furniture at the home she came from, so she may have some behavioral issues that will need to be addressed in the home. Diva’s former family also describes her as friendly, affectionate, playful, mellow, shy, independent, and medium energy. Reaction to assessor: Diva looks neutral in her cage when approached by the assessor. Reaction to door opening: Diva remains crouched down on her cage bedding, alert with eyes wide open. Reaction to touch: Diva accepts a stroke, but began to meow whine during the touch then swats and hisses at the assessor’s hand. Placement determination: NH ONLY Diva is displaying behaviors that preclude placement in the adoptions room. She is extremely fearful in the shelter environment and does not currently tolerate petting. The behavior department feels that placement with a New Hope Partner is the best option at this time.
