07/18/2015 PET PROFILE MEMO
07/18/15 12:58 Basic Info: Carley A1044521 (5yrs old, spayed Calico- purchased at a petstore) & her sister DeDe A1044523 (3yrs old, spayed white & gray tabby- given to the owner by their veterinarian) are being surrendered due to the owner’s toddler being allergic to them. They were last at a veterinarian in 2013 and currently have no known health issues/injuries. Socialization: Both Carley & DeDe are shy and will hide when strangers come over to the home. They’ve lived with children ages 21months, 6yrs & 19 year old twins. They are relaxed/affectionate with them, the adults, the dog and each other. Their play style with the children, adults and the family dog a neutered male Miniature Schnauzer are gentle and exuberant but sometimes his (the dog) energy is too much for Carley & DeDe so they ignore him. Their play style with each other is also gentle and exuberant however at times they can be somewhat rough. They’ve never bitten/scratched a person or animal. Behavior: During a car ride both Carley & DeDe are relaxed. Neither are bothered by the following: having their nails trimmed, being picked up and held or being disturbed while sleeping/resting. They haven’t gotten baths, so behaviors are unknown. They struggle and try to flee when being put into carriers. They love being brushed. For a New Family to Know: Carley & DeDe are described as friendly, affectionate, playful & mellow (at times). Their activity level is medium-high. Their favorite thing is being brushed and petted on the couch, if you’re sitting they’ll come to you to be petted (the owner likes that about them). They follow the 19yr old twins around most of the time because they’re their primary caretakers in the home. They enjoy string and wand toys. They’re indoor cats who sleep on their cat tower (made of carpet, rough rope & some cardboard). Both eat Blue Buffalo dry food 2x a day, before bed they each get a handful as a treat. Carley & DeDe use their hooded litter box with clumping litter within and have no accidents. They have the cat tower as their scratching post and sleeping quarters. Intake Behavior: DeDe didn’t allow to be petted/picked up to place into a kennel, her carrier was opened inside and she walked out on her own while low growling. She didn’t allow me to scan, collar or take her picture outside of the kennel. When approached she’ll growl and hiss.

07/19/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Reaction to assessor: Dede growls upon approach. When softly spoken to, she hisses and is focused on the assessor. Reaction to cage door opening: Dede spits and charges at the opening. Reaction to touch: Dede does not allow touch; she hisses, growls, and swats at the hand as soon as it enters the opening of the cage. As per previous owner, Dede is shy and will hide from strangers. She is relaxed and affectionate around children, adults, and the family dog she was familiar with. She was described as friendly, affectionate, playful, and mellow with a medium-high activity level. Behavior Determination: New Hope Only Dede is displaying behaviors that preclude placement in the adoptions room and/or may require further investigation before placement in a home. She has tried to swat, is extremely fearful in the shelter environment, and does not currently tolerate petting or handling. The behavior department feels that placement with a New Hope Partner is the best option at this time.
