11/19/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Reaction to assessor: Daffnie was calm, relaxed, and friendly by the front. Reaction when softly spoken to: Daffnie meows, attempts to sniff the assessor, and then reaches out with her paw. Reaction to cage door opening: Daffnie remains soft and relaxed. Reaction to touch: Daffnie head-butts, begins to purr, and leans on the assessor. However, after a few soft strokes against her body, her tail starts to quiver and she starts to whine. She continues to allow petting, but nips gently and tries to explore out of her cage. Reaction to being picked up: Daffnie allows handling, but whines and struggles to be put back down. She continues to allow petting, but pats the assessor’s hand with her paws. The patting is gentle at first, but will gradually get harder when interaction continues. Behavior Determination: Experience Daffnie has been social and affectionate in the shelter, but she appears to be agitated by the activity going on around her and appears to be easily overstimulated. As a result of this observed behavior we recommend adopters who are familiar with signs of behavioral arousal and agitation in cats, so that interactions can be ended before Daffnie becomes overstimulated. We also recommend fishing pole-type toys for play as they allow for interaction and vigorous, stimulating exercise while keeping human hands at a distance. We recommend that this cat go to a stable home environment with experienced cat parents is in her best interest. Date: 10/20/15 Reaction to assessor: Daffnie looks neutral in her cage when approached by the assessor. Reaction to door opening: Daffnie remains stitting upright by the front of the cage, relaxed body posture. Reaction to touch: Daffnie head-butts the assessor’s hand, purrs in place, and appreciates petting on the head and body. Reaction to Being Picked up: She calmly jumps back into her cage. Placement determination: Average Daffnie interacts with the observer, appreciates attention, is easy to handle and tolerates all petting. This cat is showing behavior appropriate for new or experienced cat parents.
