CALYPSO – A1048624
8-24-2015 Manhattan
**GONE 08/24/15** CALYPSO needs a NEW HOPE rescue to find a home for her, even though this 6-month-old beauty had already found one for herself. Yes, she was living in a hallway, being fed tasty wet food and darting into the home of that good Samaritan every chance she could. The person who was feeding her said Calypso was friendly, but worried she wouldn’t get along with her resident cats (even though Calypso sure seemed willing to give it a go). This tabby kitten is gorgeous, healthy, and FRIGHTENED at the shelter, which has earned her a New Hope rating. Please work with a New Hope rescue group to foster/adopt her and SAVE CALYPSO TONIGHT!

08/20/15 17:24 The finder is bringing in Calypso because she says that the cat has been in the hallway for a month. She says that she has been feeding her 9 lives and she is very friednly. She has been waiting for her to be claimed. For the last few days, every time she would open the door, Calypso runs into her home. She has other cats in the home and she is worried that they will not get along. Behavior during intake Calypso came out of the carrier on her own. She allowed scanning(-), collaring and photographs. She was a bit shy but allowed to be pet and transferred.

08/23/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Reaction to assessor: Calypso does not come to the front, but remains neutral inside her cage. She looks at the assessor when softly spoken to, and starts to breathe rapidly. Reaction to cage door opening: Calypso remains motionless. Reaction to touch: Calypso sniffs the assessor’s hand, but was hesitant with touch. She allows brief touch on her head, but begins to growl and whine. She hisses as the assessor attempts to pet her again, and lifts her paw up to prepare to swat. Note: Calypso was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to her behavior in her previous home. The finder found her in the hallway of their building and has been feeding her. She reports that she is friendly and would attempt to get inside her home, but is unable to keep her. In the care center, however, Calypso tries to avoid interaction with the assessor and has tried to strike out with extended handling. Behavior Determination: New Hope Only Calypso is displaying behaviors that preclude placement in the adoptions room and/or may require further investigation before placement in a home. She has tried to swat, is fearful in the shelter environment, and does not currently tolerate petting or handling. The behavior department feels that placement with a New Hope Partner is the best option at this time.
