BIRGIT – A1059409
Gone 12-15-2015 Manhattan
**GONE 12/15/15** BIRGIT’s former owner NEVER took him to a vet, but DID abandon him at the ACC–how cruel is that? Someone must have taken this huggable boy to a vet at one point, because he’s already NEUTERED. BIRGIT is the last of three cats who were surrendered to the shelter by someone who claimed to be “moving,” but the only ones who probably did any “moving” were the cats….and two of those have already “moved” through the euth room at the ACC, and into those industrial freezers. BIRGIT is not feeling his best, a combination of bewilderment at his new surroundings, and also something that needs checking on by a vet. Please do NOT let this good cat be lost to a broken “shelter” system and the cruel whims of a crappy former owner. BIRGIT has a perfectly respectable EXPNOCHILD rating and can be saved by a FOSTER or ADOPTER, tonight!

The owner surrendered them because he is moving and can’t take the cats with him. The owner has ever not taken them to a vet so he has no idea if the cats have any health problems. Socialization: The owner states Larisa, Birgit and Rosi have never been around stranger or children. Larisa, Birgit and Rosi have lived together along with a small yorkie but they never interacted with each other (owner kept them in different rooms in the house) so the owner has no idea how Larisa, Birgit and Rosi would react around other dogs. Larisa, Birgit and Rosi has never bitten or scratched anyone. Behavior: Larisa, Birgit and Rosi have never been bathed or had their nails trimmed. They do not mind having their coats brushed, but they do not like being picked up or placed in a cat carriers. Larisa, Birgit and Rosi have never played with toys; they live mostly indoors and sleeps anywhere in the house that they want. In the home Larisa, Birgit and Rosi will be in the same room as the owner but rarely seek attention. Larisa, Birgit and Rosi eat nine lives brand wet cat food and are fed two times a day. They is litter box trained and uses an uncovered litter boxes (separate ones for each cat) with clumping litter. Larisa, Birgit and Rosi have never been given a scratching post so the owner does not know if they will use it or not. 12/04/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Birgit came into the care center with two feline housemates. His previous owner describes him as independent with a medium activity level. He does not frequently seek attention. Birgit was tense but tolerant of handling at intake and during his initial medical examination. During his behavior evaluation Birgit allows touch but does not solicit attention and remains tense throughout. Reaction to assessor: Birgit is sitting in the middle of his cage. He does not retreat but cannot be coaxed forward. Reaction to cage door opening: remains still. Reaction to touch: Birgit remains sitting in the middle of his cage, tense. He allows touch on the head and body but does not relax or solicit attention. Placement determination: Experienced home without children Birgit tolerates attention and petting but appears to be a bit stressed in the care center environment, and may be intimidated by small children. He is reported to be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to his new home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center as well as his owner’s report, we feel that this cat will do best in a calm, quiet home with experienced cat parents and without children
