***SAFE 08/09/15***BEGINNER BENJI BLACK AND WHITE CUTIE NEEDS YOU! My name is BENJI. A volunteer writes, “Ahoy there Mate! There’s no goin back!! Once this gentle little Nugget is snuggled in your arms…he’s not leavin. He just wants to hang out and watch the world pass by. And if you try and put him back in his bachelor cat condo- he’ll only turn right back around, look at you with that adorable “patch” over his left eye and your heart will be forever stolen. There’s no arguing with this cutie patootie pirate! Come adopt this brave little sweetheart!” Benji is just two years old and was sadly dumped at the shelter by someone who easily caught him after feeding him for a month. Not sure why his finder decided to dump him at the kill-happy shelter since with his sweet disposition it seems more than likely that he was once someone’s beloved pet. Did the finder try to find his owner or try to find him another home? Or why not just leave this sweetie alone? Sad sigh. Anyway, this precious pet’s life is in peril tonight and let’s do everything we can to move him to safe haven. 07/26/15 19:12 Benji was found on 216th st and Barnes avenue in the bronx. The finder is a frequent client and says that she caught him on 7/25/2015 and took him in for the night and fed him wet food. He has been coming around for the past month, meowing loudly at her door in her back yard. She has been feeding him and giving him water. Behavior during intake Benji was meowing loudly upon intake. He jumped out of his carrier and walked around slowly, soliciting attention. He allowed to be picked up and carried, while continuing to meow. He allowed to be scanned(-), collared, and photographed. He became impatient, wanting to be pet and carried. He allowed all handling. He did not resist or retreat.

Reaction to cage door opening: Benji remains soft and relaxed. Reaction to touch: Benji leans on the assessor and nuzzles into the assessor’s arms. He begins to purr and head-butts lightly. Reaction to being picked up: Benji remains calm and allows handling. Behavior Determination: Beginner Benji interacts with the Assessor, solicits attention, is easy to handle and tolerates all petting. This cat can go to a beginner home.
