Some cats like less one on one than others…..So after almost a year and a half BEN’s owners haven’t figured this out and have returned him to the ACC. Yet they described him as “confident, active and mellow” What gives here?? The ACC didn’t even bother to give BEN a behavior rating!! LET’S GIVE BEN A FAIR CHANCE!! He’s already NEUTERED and just under two years old. With the right pet parents BEN will be fine and dandy!! PLEASE OFFER TO FOSTER OR ADOPT THIS TABBY GUY TONIGHT AND SAVE HIS LIFE!!

07/01/2015 PET PROFILE MEMO
07/01/15 14:33 Basic info: Ben is a 1 year 10 month old neutered cat who has no known injuries or medical problems. He was surrendered to the shelter due to aggression issues. Social Life and Personality: He was not around any children, dogs, or cats so his behaviors are unknown. He is litter box trained and kept indoors only. He has a medium level of energy and was described as confident, active, and mellow. Owner stated that he behaves best when he is allowed to roam the home alone and not interacted with. Behaviors: He has a history or biting and scratching (when first adopted would be about 10 times a month or more) but he did not bite or scratch in the last ten days. He was not given a bath before and when owner tried to trim nails he would hiss and swat and bite. He would swat at the brush when owner would try to brush his fur but was not bothered/enjoyed going into his carrier. New Family Info: He is used to crystal litter inside a hooded box. He will play with tunnels, string, balls, and wand toys. He used a vertical scratching post made out of rough rope. At home he would stay in a favorite spot and when he plays i is exuberant to somewhat rough. When traveling on bus/train/car he is not bothered. He was fed dry food on a schedule feeding. Intake Behavior: During intake he allowed all handling without aggression. When touched had soft body and would nuzzle hand while purring. When outside carrier would approach extended hand and sniff. When inside new carrier sat at front and when given food would eat.

07/09/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Ben’s former owner stated he has a medium level of energy and was described as confident, active, and mellow. Reaction to assessor: Ben immediately comes soliciting at the front of the cage. Reaction to door opening: Ben remains at the front of the cage, soft and relaxed, soliciting attention. Reaction to touch: Ben head-butts the assessor’s hand, gives kisses, and appreciates petting on the head and body. However, he becomes overly aroused during thr touch then gentle nipped at the hand. Reaction to Being Picked up: He allows the pickup and remains calm. Placement determination: Experience / no child Initially Ben solicits petting and attention, but after a few soft passes over the body he begins to gentle nip at the assessor. This may be a sign of petting-induced aggression, where repeated physical contact results in discomfort for the cat, or it may be a sign of overstimulation. As a result of this observed behavior we recommend adopters who are familiar with signs of behavioral arousal and agitation in cats, so that interactions can be ended before Ben becomes reactive. Treats should be used to reward appropriate responses to physical attention.
