SAFE – 04/15/15 – BASTIAN – A1032873 – MANHATTAN, NY

Bastian is a spayed 4-year-old lady who knows the “sit” command and lived with a turtle, both of which are super-cute facts about her….and neither of which will keep her safe when the euth technician comes calling, tomorrow. This sublime family pet was brought to the ACC by former owners who decided to move somewhere she wasn’t welcome, and Bastian is understandably rattled at the shelter. Her fears have played out in the form of a New Hope rating, which is why only a rescue can pull her to safety, tonight.

Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Please take note: Bastain’s former owner stated he has lived with a turtle and got along with it. He uses a scratch post and is more shy, hides a lot. Also, knows the command to sit. Reaction to assessor: Bastain looks neuteral in her cage when approached by the assessor Reaction to door opening: Bastain remains crouched down on her cage bedding, alert with soft eyes. Reaction to touch: Bastain does not allow the stroke, hisses with ears down, and swats at the assessor’s hand. Placement determination: NH ONLY Bastain is displaying behaviors that preclude placement in the adoptions room. She is stressed in the shelter environment and does not currently tolerate petting. The behavior department feels that placement with a New Hope Partner is the best option at this time.
