12/07/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Barry was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to his behavior in his previous home. According to the previous owner’s roommate, the cat does not allow handling and eats wet and dry food. Barry resisted handling during his initial medical exam; growling and trying to bite and scratch. Reaction to Assessor: Barry becomes stiff and alert upon approach. Reaction when softly spoken to: Barry lowers his head and blinks slowly. Reaction to cage door opening: Barry remains motionless but begins to growl. Reaction to touch: Barry starts to growl, but he sniffs the assessor’s hand. He hisses hard after and strikes when petting was attempted. Behavior Determination: New Hope Only Barry is displaying behaviors that preclude placement in the adoptions room and/or may require further investigation before placement in a home. He has tried to swat, is extremely fearful in the shelter environment, and does not currently tolerate petting or handling. The behavior department feels that placement with a New Hope Partner is the best option at this time.
