**SAFE 11/16/15** SECOND CHANCE FOR ALASKA-MAKE IT COUNT! Poor ALASKA…talk about getting the COLD shoulder! This striking 5 year old was abandoned by the previous owner then a neighbor took care of him. Now he’s on DEATH ROW and needs a miracle,NOW! He’s got a URI and possible heart murmur which needs re-checking. Antibiotics can cure the cold but who can cure his broken heart? Only a FOSTER or ADOPTER can! He needs someone who can care for him and keep him…this time for good!

10/23/15 18:12 Basic Information: Alaska is an male black and white domestic shorthair cat. He was abandoned by his previous owner and was taken care of by a neighbor. He is described as shy and quiet. Personality: Alaska has only been around older kids and teenagers and is usually tolerant. He isnt very playful and usually allows petting. He hasnt been around other cats or dogs. He is litterbox trained and exclusively uses the litterbox. He has been keptmostly indoors and has a low activity level. Behavior: Alaska often claws at funiture. When being held according to his owner he will struggle hisse and will swat. He is fearful when being put into cat carriers. His owners have not attempted to bathe, trim his nails or brush him. For a new family to know: Alaska has been using crystals litter and an uncvered litterbox. He did not have a scratching post at home and usually clawed at the furniture. When ome he tends to follow his owner around. In car rides he cries and meows. He eats wet food and is fed twice a day, morning and evening. He sleeps in his own space. Upon intake Alaska was calm, he had a firm body but allowed all handling, scanning and collaring. For photo Alaska was tense and retreated back into carrier.

Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Alaska’s previous owner states that he has only been around older children. He is usually tolerant around them, allows petting, but isn’t very playful. He has not been around other cats or dogs, but is litter box trained and has a low activity level. He may struggle, hiss, and swat when held and is fearful when placed into a carrier. Around the home, he usually follows his owner around. Reaction to assessor: Alaska was calm and relaxed upon approach. Reaction when softly spoken to: Alaska blinks and looks at the assessor with relaxed eyes. Reaction to cage door opening: Alaska remains soft and relaxed. Reaction to touch: Alaska remains in place for petting and begins to warm up. He slowly comes to the front, begins to purr, and leans on the assessor. Reaction to being picked up: Alaska remains calm during pick up, but will move around to be put back down. Behavior Determination: Average Alaska interacts with the observer, appreciates attention, is easy to handle and tolerates all petting. No known history of behavioral problems. This cat is showing behavior appropriate for new or experienced cat parents.
