08/11/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Reaction to Assessor: Sophie was calm, relaxed, and friendly by the front of the cage. She meows and rubs her cheeks onto the cage door to solicit attention when softly spoken to. Reaction to cage door opening: Sophie remains soft and relaxed. Reaction to touch: Sophie head-butts, remains in place for petting, and starts to purr. She may become agitated during the interaction; she pauses and nips gently on the assessor’s hand. When continuing to pet her, she nips a little harder and her tail starts to sway sideways. Reaction to being picked up: Sophie remains calm and allows handling. As per previous owner, Sophie has been socialized with children and is described as being relaxed, affectionate, tolerant, and respectful around them. She has not been around other cats or dogs. She was described as playful, confident, mellow, friendly, assertive, quiet, and independent with a medium activity level. She does not use a scratching post and she will scratch furniture but not excessively. Behavior Determination: Experience Sophie is social and affectionate but appears to be easily overstimulated and/or plays roughly. As a result of this observed behavior we recommend adopters who are familiar with signs of behavioral arousal and agitation in cats, so that interactions can be ended before Sophie becomes overstimulated. We also recommend fishing pole-type toys for play as they allow for interaction and vigorous, stimulating exercise while keeping human hands at a distance. We recommend any future home with children conduct a thorough interaction.
