PETEY – A1058290
Safe 12-4-2015 Manhattan
***SAFE 12/04/15***BLACK AND WHITE CUTIE NEEDS YOU-BE PETEY’S HERO! Sad sigh! Petey is a five year old precious pet who was surrendered for allegedly biting people. We say “allegedly” because Petey has been a good boy at the shelter, tolerating all petting and handling. He may need to go to an experienced adopter-foster who according to shelter notes should be “familiar with signs of behavioral agitation in cats, so that interactions can be ended before Petey becomes reactive. Treats should be used to reward appropriate responses to physical attention.” This does NOT sound like a vicious cat at all—just a precious pet who desperately needs a new “leash” on life. Can you be the kind purrson to open up your heart and home to give poor Petey that chance? Please reserve this black and white cutie online or let a rescue know if you can help. Transportation is available. Make the call for Petey NOW! Save a life. Make a difference.

11/28/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Reaction to assessor: Petey looks neutral in is cage when approached by the assessor. Reaction to door opening: Petey remains sitting upright by the front of the cage, alert with soft eyes. Reaction to touch: Petey head-butts the assessor’s hand and appreciates petting on the head and body. However, during the touch he began to stop and stare at the hand and meow whine, to stop. Once the petting stopped he continued to solicit attention. Reaction to Being Picked up: He calmly jumps back into his cage. Placement determination: Experience Initially Petey solicits petting and attention, but after a few soft passes over the body he begins to meow whine and stare at the assessor’s hand. This may be a sign of petting-induced aggression, where repeated physical contact results in discomfort for the cat, or it may be a sign of overstimulation. As a result of this observed behavior we recommend adopters who are familiar with signs of behavioral arousal and agitation in cats, so that interactions can be ended before Petey becomes reactive. Treats should be used to reward appropriate responses to physical attention.
