12/07/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Octocat was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to his behavior in his previous home. He tried to flee upon intake and became fractious during his initial medical exam, possibly due to fear. Reaction to Assessor: Octocat does not come to the front, but remains neutral inside his cage. Reaction when softly spoken to: Octocat becomes stiff and alert, and focuses on the assessor. Reaction to cage door opening: Octocat remains motionless, but starts to breathe rapidly. Reaction to touch: Octocat sniffs the assessor’s hand and slowly lifts his paw up to pat it gently. He does not allow touch however; he attempts to flee and starts to grumble. Behavior Determination: New Hope Only Octocat is displaying behaviors that preclude placement in the adoptions room and/or may require further investigation before placement in a home. He is extremely fearful in the shelter environment and does not currently tolerate petting or handling. The behavior department feels that placement with a New Hope Partner is the best option at this time.
