05/28/15 23:22 NAME Milky Way REASON FOR SURRENDER Milky Way’s behavior has changes and he has bitten the owner’s youngest child and other cat on a few occasions. This behavior started about 1 year ago when the second child was born. RELATIONSHIP Milky Way’s previous owner adopted him from a shelter about 13 years ago. He is currently about 14 years old. He scanned positive for a microchip. PEOPLE He lived in a home with 2 adults and 2 children ages 1 and 17 years. He is usually fearful around the children and will hide when they are near. He has bitten someone in the last 10 days and the bite did break skin. OTHER ANIMALS He lived in a home with one other cat, and he was usually fearful around him and would hide. He has bitten the other cat before, but not within the last 10 days. PERSONALITY He is an indoor only cat who mostly lies around throughout the day. He has been described as fearful, aloof, quiet, and independent. He doesn’t play often, but when he does, he likes to play with balls and strings. He hisses and swats during baths. He isn’t bothered if you disturb him while he is sleeping. He either isn’t bothered or struggles to get away when you hold him. He struggles to get away and hisses when you place him in a carrier. He struggles to get away when you brush him. He rarely seeks attention and usually stays hidden when his owner is home. He is quiet during car rides. He eats 9 Lives dry and wet food and is fed twice daily. He uses an uncovered litter box with clumping litter. He usually sleeps on the chair or under the table. TRAINING He is litter box trained and hasn’t had any accidents. BEHAVIOR DURING INTAKE He was very nervous and did not allow handling.

Milky Way former owner stated he has lived in a home with 2 adults and 2 children ages 1 and 17 years. He is usually fearful around the children and will hide, when they are near. Also, lived in a home with one other cat, and he was usually fearful around him and would hide. Reaction to assessor: Milky Way looks tense in his cage when approached by the assessor. Reaction to door opening: Milky Way remains hiding in his cat den, alert with eyes wide open. Reaction to touch: Milky Way does not allow the stroke, meow whines, and swats at the assessor’s hand. Placement determination: NH ONLY Milky Way is displaying behaviors that preclude placement in the adoptions room. He is stressed in the shelter environment and does not currently tolerate petting. The behavior department feels that placement with a New Hope Partner is the best option at this time.
