08/17/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Reaction to assessor: Mario was calm and relaxed upon approach. He looks at the assessor when softly spoken to, but then looks away. Reaction to cage door opening: Mario meows and comes to the front. Reaction to touch: Mario head-butts lightly, rolls onto his side, and remains in place for petting, but hisses and swats gently at the assessor’s hand randomly. He becomes stiff, his tail sways rapidly, and moves away from the assessor after. When attempting to pet him again, he pats the hand again and shifts away while blinking. Behavior Determination: Experience No Child Mario solicits petting and attention initially, but after a few soft passes over the body he begins to hiss and swat at the assessor. This may be a sign of petting-induced aggression, where repeated physical contact results in discomfort for the cat, or it may be a sign of overstimulation. As a result of this observed behavior we recommend adopters who are familiar with signs of behavioral arousal and agitation in cats, so that interactions can be ended before Mario becomes reactive. Treats should be used to reward appropriate responses to physical attention. We feel that this cat will do best in a home with experienced cat owners without children.
