FANCY – A1034975
*** SAFE 05/05/15 **** FANCY IS ANOTHER CAT DUMPED BECAUSE THE OWNER HAD NO TIME…..Now FANCY is the one with no time… It is hard to fathom the absolutely ludicrous explanation this owner gives for abandoning her cat. Poor FANCY is not spayed but she is declawed both conditions which can produce anxiety and fear. In addition there was no vet visit to rule out an infection or to perhaps get advice for dealing with anxiety or maybe just even getting another cat companion. IF YOU ARE AS OUTRAGED BY THIS CASUAL DISREGARD FOR FANCY’S LIFE….PLEASE OFFER TO FOSTER OR ADOPT NOW!! FANCY WILL ABSOLUTELY BLOSSOM WITH THE RIGHT HOME AND THE RIGHT PURRSON….MAKE SURE SHE GETS THAT CHANCE TONIGHT!!

05/01/2015 PET PROFILE MEMO
05/01/15 18:27 BASIC INFORMATION Fancy is an approximately 2 year old gray tabby. She was a gift to the owner. She is being surrendered because the owner has no time due to her work schedule and her son just left for college. There is no one who can watch after the cat at home and she feels that Fancy is having anxiety issues. Fancy has no known health problems. She is declawed. SOCIALIZATION Fancy does not do well around children. She becomes fearful and shy. She runs away and may become aggressive. She plays well with other cats and gentle with adults. She has been mostly kept indoors and has a high activity level. The owner describes Fancy as assertive, affectionate, and independent. The best home for her would be one with no children. BEHAVIOR The owner states that a couple weeks ago Fancy started having litter box problems. She began to urinate outside of the box. She has not seen a vet for this problem. FOR A NEW FAMILY TO KNOW At home, Fancy used a hooded litterbox. She loves to play with paper balls and string. Fancy loves to sleep in her favorite spot on the bed and rarely seeks attention only when shes hungry. She was being fed fancy feast. BEHAVIOR DURING INTAKE During intake, Fancy was very calm and allowed to be scanned (negative) and transferred into a kennel. She did not allow collaring. She is shy when approached.

05/04/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Reaction to assessor: Fancy became stiff and alert upon approach. When softly spoken to, she hisses, growls, and is focused on the assessor. Reaction to cage door opening: Fancy growls louder and charges at the opening. Reaction to touch: Fancy does not allow touch; she swats, spits, and hisses at the assessor’s hand. As per previous owner, Fancy does not do well around children because she is fearful and shy. She runs away and may become aggressive. On the other hand, she plays well with adults and other cats. They described her as assertive, affectionate, and independent, with a high activity level. The owner also reported that Fancy has not been using her litter box for a couple of weeks. Veterinarians and trainers have not been consulted, however, and the owner believed she may have anxiety because there is no one to watch her at home. We advise any potential adopter to be prepared for this behavior, and prepared manage it if it appears in a future home. Methods of managing and attempting to modify this behavior can be discussed with the Adoption Counselors. Behavior Determination: NH ONLY Fancy is displaying behaviors that preclude placement in the adoptions room and/or may require further investigation before placement in a home. She has tried to swat, scratch, is extremely fearful in the shelter environment, and does not currently tolerate petting or handling. She may have a known history of behavioral issues that need to be addressed. The behavior department feels that placement with a New Hope Partner is the best option at this time.
