08/05/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Reaction to Assessor: Chewy was calm at the front, but was growling. He stops growling and looks at the assessor when softly spoken to, but continues to growl when looking elsewhere in the room. He may be growling because he sees other cats in the room. Reaction to cage door opening: Chewy becomes alert, but remains calm. Reaction to touch: Chewy was a bit hesitant at first, but head-butts the assessor’s hand and starts to purr. He rolls onto his side and leans on the assessor. Reaction to being picked up: Chewy shifts away from the assessor and prefers to be on all four paws. As per previous owner, Chewy has spent a lot of time around children ages 4-9. He is very friendly and active when playing with them. He has a high activity level most of the time and enjoys being around people he doesn’t initially know. He has no experience around other cats or dogs, but is described as friendly, playful, and independent with people. He is litter box trained, but will have an occasional accident if the litter box is not clean. Behavior Determination: Average Chewy interacts with the observer, appreciates attention, and tolerates all petting, but he may be uncomfortable around other cats. He has been noted to hiss whenever another cat passes near his kennel and growls upon approach because he is focused on another cat. Due to this behavior, we recommend Chewy goes to a home with no other cats OR into a multi-cat home with adopters experienced with introducing new cats slowly and gradually over a long period of time.
